The "Feldkirche" or "Faldkerich" (Fields Church)
This church was located at the current cemetery North of the village between Hoerdt and Weyersheim a little apart on a small mount sheltered from flooding.
Existing well before 1648 and already named « Feldkirche », it was rebuilt in 1761. From the years 1686-1693, it serves simultaneously to the Protestant and Catholic communities.
It has been demolished in 1846 because to old and replaced by the two current churches located in the village (1846 for the Protestant temple and 1848 for the Catholic church).
The Angels exhibited in the museum come from the « Feldkirche » as well as the organ, which was reinstalled in the Catholic Church.
Philippe BEILSTEIN offered this painting to his friend Chrétien ARLEN, mayor of Hoerdt. Native of Wissembourg where he was born in 1824, Philippe BEILSTEIN is a voyer* agent in the Brumath County when he made this lithograph in 1846, most certainly made visually a few weeks before the demolition of the religious building.
* “Voyer agent” : function assigned to a person responsible for managing municipal property and maintaining the road network.
